Career Exploration & Self Assessment
Self-knowledge is the first step in the career planning process. There are many activities designed to allow students to gain information about themselves in order to begin exploring occupations that blend their interests, skills and work and personal values. Through this process, students not only learn about themselves, but also develop a model for critical decision-making.
The Guidance Department provides several opportunities to support you in this process.
- The CHOICES program is available to all McAuley students and parents. This program includes several activities that can be completed individually and then merged to create a comprehensive Career Portfolio. To access, click on the link or go to www.access.bridges.com Specific sign-on directions are available in the Guidance Office and in the Guidance section of the McAuley Online.
- ACT EXPLORE and PLAN tests which are administered in the freshman and sophomore years provide valuable insight into skills and interests.
- Career Choice - once a month, professional women are invited to share their career paths with sophomores. Speakers offer insight into goal setting, career exploration and job opportunities, encouraging students to begin thinking about their own career aspirations.
- Career Study Week (CSW) is a self directed learning experience that gives juniors a chance to prepare for the world of work, grow in self-knowledge and life decision-making skills.
